INITIATIVE 1

Debris removal and eco-friendly recycling will be managed by the following companies: Florida Wrecking and Salvage, LLC, GoodEarth Environmental, Inc. and Shoreline Foundation. The three primary uses of the debris will be for road construction, building materials and an artificial coral reef.

INITIATIVE 2

The artificial reef will be produced from the non-toxic debris, producing a marine habitat that will result in a sustainable commercial fishery industry and ecotourism development via snorkeling and diving opportunities, in conjunction with the Miami-Dade County Artificial Reef Program, Shoreline Foundation and the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science.

INITIATIVE 3

In order to carry out Haiti Renew’s Initiatives, a site study will be conducted to ensure the feasibility of each initiative. This study will involve extensive on the ground analysis utilizing cutting edge Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology as well as information garnered from Haitian officials and other NGOs and groups working on rebuilding efforts.

INITIATIVE 4

The commercial shipping seaport located in Port-au-Prince will be rebuilt by Shoreline Foundation. Marinas will be developed using floating docks, resilient to future natural disasters, supplied by VersaDock.

INITIATIVE 5

A temporary hospital and a future permanent hospital will be managed by Jewish Renaissance Medical Center (JRMC). The Jewish Renaissance Medical Center already has provided physicians and supplies to Haiti and will continue to build capacity over the coming weeks.

INITIATIVE 6

The building of schools that will also serve as vocational training centers and hurricane shelters, built to seismic standards. The National Recovery Consultation Program may use these buildings for programming for each surrounding community.

Through these centers assistance will be provided to the Haitian Ministry of Commerce and Industry to attract opportunities for jobs and micro development in the following sectors: apparel, tourism, fisheries, agriculture, and food processing and other sectors that have been identified by Haitians.

INITIATIVE 7

A sustainable plan for reforestation and agriculture will be developed in conjunction with the University of Florida, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

INITIATIVE 8

An ethanol distillery will be built that processes agricultural waste and energy crops, such as switchgrass and jatropha, utilizing Infinite Renewable Energies (IRE) cellulosic proprietary technology for a sustainable energy source. IRE will also set up commercial and residential systems to extract water vapor from the atmosphere and state-of-art efficient water distillation technology in some locations which can be powered by photo-voltaic technology for drinking and agricultural use.

INITIATIVE 9

Development of a website that will highlight the various projects being implemented and their progress allowing for full institutional transparency. The site will feature an interactive component where people can follow the recovery and post their own experiences, photos and comments. Donations will be able to accepted from the site and there will be a platform for future interested businesses to find out how to become involved and partner in development efforts. A line of Haiti Renew merchandise will also be available and proceeds from the sale will aid the recovery.

INITIATIVE 10

Creation of a communications plan that will keep the plight of the Haitians alive. Central to the plan would be a book that would capture the stories of victims, rescuers, medical staff, and others working on the recovery to tell a diverse story of how people were impacted in various ways by the earthquake, as well as the rescue and recovery.  These compelling stories would be captured and turned into a documentary film. Proceeds from the sales of these materials would help fund the recovery.

Site surveys/feasibility studies for each initiative will produce outcome measures with metrics that will allow project managers to evaluate daily, weekly, monthly progress in relation to the targets set.
